The Oregon iSector is pleased to announce we have been awarded a $145,000 planning grant from Business Oregon. This is the first step in a two-stage process to develop a Center of Innovation Excellence focused on Mass Timber Housing Innovation.
Oregon’s housing deficit is one of the largest in the country and, in order to restore balance to the market, our state will need to produce around 30,000 new housing units each year for the next twenty years. This is a huge burden on our state and we are in serious need of innovative solutions that will deliver housing quickly and affordably.
In the coming months, the Oregon iSector and the Housing Innovation Partnership will be working with the Oregon Mass Timber Coalition to develop a business plan for a Mass Timber Center of Innovation. The funds will allow for exploration of regional factories, the development of resource center to remove barriers and provide workforce training, and more as we aim to reduce Oregon’s housing deficit.
Creating a Center of Innovation Excellence will require the work of many partners from the public, private, and civic sectors. A huge thank you to our partners in the Housing Innovation Partnership and the Port of Portland who supported the Oregon iSector proposal pursuing this opportunity. We are excited about what the future hold for Mass Timber Housing Innovation in Oregon!
